Community
City
Tipton, Iowa, the county seat of Cedar County, is a community of 3100 people located nine miles north of Interstate 80 on State Highway 38.
Iowa City is a short thirty-minute commute away, and it’s just a forty-five minute drive to Cedar Rapids or the Quad Cities. Visitors are impressed by clean, well-kept lawns, lovely flower gardens, magnificent maple trees and a number of tastefully reconditioned Victorian homes.
Schools
The Tipton Community School District has a reputation for academic excellence. Recently a new middle-school addition was completed next to the present elementary building and a remodeling project finished at the High School facilities. The local economy is diverse, including a thriving agricultural base, manufacturing, service companies, and a vital retail business district.
Residents can take advantage of a rich variety of cultural opportunities, either in Tipton, or in the nearby urban communities, the Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids, and Iowa City, the home of the University of Iowa. It’s a cosmopolitan life in a small town environment, and First United Methodist Church is a important part of that life.
